Digital, Data and Technology as a Catalyst for Change with Trevor Gordon

Digital, Data and Technology as a Catalyst for Change with Trevor Gordon

It feels like so much has changed in only a fortnight after skipping an episode for UK General Election shenanigans. Has the UK now entered a brave new world where Digital, Data and AI are front and centre with a new government, and where England’s men can boldly follow the footballing path to success demonstrated by the lioness’s?

We’ll have to wait and see - but for the moment, we’ll concentrate on this newsletter which will aim to buck-the-trend of over-used football related puns. On this week’s podcast we’re lucky enough to have a recent recipient of the much-coveted Global CIO100 award, Trevor Gordon, from Save the Children UK

Following a positive reception to last week’s episode with Laura Dawson where we talked a lot about the barriers to effective and strategic use of technology in charities, we continue in a similar theme this week, with Trevor talking about his thoughts on how Technology, Data, Digital and AI work together - and what the charity sector can learn from big corporates.

This week

We’ve spotted a lot going on with the ‘bolstering’ of the Department for Science Innovation and Technology in the UK. Local (to me!) Hove MP, Peter Kyle made a series of announcements around how AI will be used to make public services easier to consume - but more interestingly (and in what seems a sensible move), combining the AI incubator with GDS and CDDO. This could have a big impact on the charity sector - but we may have to wait a few weeks before the impact is really seen.

Virtue & Virtuosity Episode 9: Effective Delivery of Digital Change in Charities with Trevor Gordon

This week, I talk with Chief Digital Technology Officer, Trevor Gordon, from Save the Children about what he’s seen in how technology can effectively deliver for organisations. He reflects on what he has seen in the commercial sector - and looks to what the charity sector can learn from it.

We then continue some of the themes we’ve discussed in previous episodes around how effective risk management, and how clear definition on decision-making frameworks can help with agility within charities.

Trevor talks about his experiences of how people within his organisation are using AI - and what the future could be.

Bonus Episodes and Season 2…

Sadly, today’s episode is the last full episode of the season, but we do have a couple of bonus episodes planned over the summer. Later in July, we’re doing a review of the series, where we hear reflections from leaders within the sector on key themes/topics that they’ve seen in Season 1 - please do drop me a line if you’d like to feature in this episode. We also have a second bonus episode planned for August looking at how you can grow new talent to get Technology teams match-fit for the demands of the coming years. Watch this space for more info. Following that, the next season is planned to start in September - do get in touch if you’d like to feature in it.
